At cosine we have a large number of computer systems running Windows and Linux. Whenever possible we run open source software. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic IT Support Specialist.
As an IT Support Specialist at cosine you oversee business-critical computer systems and offer support to our users. This may entail working directly with staff who use the computer systems, configuring and updating new and existing systems, and also maintaining and updating the documentation on all IT-related systems and procedures.
You report to the IT Manager, however in general you’re able to perform your duties with minimal supervision.
- Provide Support
You offer assistance to computer system users. This may be with hardware, such as computers, printers and various network-based devices, or it may be with software. You have sufficient knowledge of networking to be able to provide assistance with the configuration of new devices.You will generally track all instances of support by creating IT tickets using ticket-tracking software
- Monitor Systems
You review daily reports from the many systems running to make sure all critical processes and backups are being executed as required. You are able to identify anomalies, discuss them with the IT Manager and progressively become able to independently address issues according to cosine’s procedures
- Maintain and Upgrade Systems
You are in charge of keeping current systems updated and running smoothly. You upgrade the systems and their components when the need arises. You can perform research and provide cost analysis data when upgrading or purchasing new hardware, software or equipment. On a regular basis you assess the status of the existing infrastructure to ensure it continues to meet necessary demands
- Administer Data
You maintain the inventory of IT hardware and software, the organization of the IT infrastructure, make sure new users are correctly defined and have access to the resources they need. You make sure that the confidentiality of personal and business data is guaranteed through the implementation of cosine’s access rules
Skills and qualifications
- Working knowledge of IT operating systems: our servers run Linux, the users are allowed to use Windows, Linux or macOS
- Some experience and knowledge of Linux is needed, the willingness and ability to learn what you don’t know is essential
- Hands-on experience installing hardware and software
- Good organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to speak and write English fluently in a professional working environment
