ESA Earth Observation delegation visits cosine

On Tuesday 8 November 2022, a delegation from the European Space Agency (ESA), including the Director of Earth Observation Programmes Ms Simonetta Cheli, Mr Antonio Ciccolella, and Mr Nicola Melega visited the cosine facilities in Sassenheim, the Netherlands.

Dr Marco Esposito, managing director of cosine Remote Sensing, gave a guided tour of our Remote Sensing and High Energy Optics facilities to our guests of the day. They had the opportunity to get a closer look at the 1000 m2 of cleanrooms and high-tech assembly facilities where our scientists and engineers work daily to build and test the systems that we produce for our customers.

After the tour, Dr Esposito presented the history of cosine and our current projects. Among these is the Φ-Sat-1 mission, where cosine collaborated with ESA, and in particular with the directorate of Ms. Cheli, in the first experiment to demonstrate how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used for Earth observation. cosine’s hyperspectral imaging system HyperScout 2 is at the heart of the mission, with its onboard processing and AI capabilities enabling the Φ-Sat-1 mission.

cosine recently celebrated receiving the ESA Team Achievement Award 2022 for the success of HyperScout 2 in the Φ-Sat mission.
