Large presence of cosine’s innovative optical solutions for space at ESA’s WITSO 2023

Five highly innovative optical remote sensing solutions of cosine that will enable future space missions have been selected as oral presentations at the European Space Agency’s (ESA) upcoming Workshop on Innovative Technologies for Space Optics (WITSO) 2023. This event will take place from November 6 to 10 at ESA-ESTEC in the Netherlands.

This workshop is used by ESA to gather the state-of-the-art developments in space technology. It serves as a platform to share and present the latest and best developments happening in the field at the moment. With our five presentations, cosine has a significant presence at the event, reflecting the importance of our hard work and mindset to always bring new solutions for our clients and advance the field of Space Optics.

cosine will showcase the progress made in the development of its technology lines for space remote sensing to address applications such as single-photon counting LIDARs applied to vegetation height and structure retrieval, bathymetry, spectropolarimetry applied to atmospheric aerosol retrieval, and exoplanet search. We will also highlight the latest techniques deployed on the Sentinel IV spectrometer to suppress straylight artifacts, enabling accurate atmospheric chemistry measurements. Additionally, miniaturization of thermal infrared remote sensing solutions for the small satellite market and the latest product from cosine for the calibration of high-resolution spectrometers leveraging integrated photonics will be presented. For the exact timings of our presentations, refer to the list below:

  • Day 1, Monday 6 November 2023: NewSpace Optical Payloads
16:40 – 17:00 – “ALART – A multi kHz multispectral scanning single photon counting vegetation lidar.”
  • Day 2, Tuesday 7 November 2023: NewSpace Optical Payloads
    ◦ 15:00 – 15:20 – “Spectropolarimetry instrumentation and its enabling technology for Earth Observation and exoplanets characterization.”
    ◦ 17:10 – 17:30 – “T-SCOUT – A miniaturised high resolution thermal infrared imager.”
  • Day 3, Wednesday 8 November 2023: Game Changers
    ◦ 16:40 – 17:00 – “Miniaturized in-flight calibrator source for hyperspectral space optical instruments.”
  • Day 5, Friday 10 November 2023: Straylight session
    ◦ 11:20 – 11:40 – “S4/UVN stray light correction: achievements and lessons learned.”

This event will provide the opportunity to collaborate, network, and share the latest findings in an informal gathering on three main topics, considered key to the development of high performance optical systems for Space.

Please come and meet our team during the event. Don’t miss the opportunity to discover more about our latest projects, instruments, and accomplishments!
